Nuova pubblicazione per le Edizioni Museo Pasqualino: “In the footsteps of the cow” di Igor Spanò

Il nuovo volume della collana Nanaya – Studi e Materiali di Antropologia e Storia delle Religioni è dedicato alla 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚̀ 𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚̀ 𝐯𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞. L’autore, 𝐈𝐠𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐨̀, concentra la propria indagine sull’antica sessione rituale del 𝐠𝐚𝐯ā𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐚, che accompagnava la successione dei mesi del calendario religioso vedico e si concludeva con la celebrazione del 𝐦𝐚𝐡ā𝐯𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐚, durante il solstizio d’inverno. L’analisi filologica dei testi accompagnata da una prospettiva storico-religiosa e antropologica consente all’autore di mettere in luce un complesso gioco di scambi simbolici legati all’alternarsi delle stagioni e alla crescita della vegetazione, al mito della generazione attraverso lo svuotamento e alla ricollocazione, nel perimetro del mondo civile e della legge, di ciò che appare dirompente e anomico (come la sessualità). Nel libro emergono sia l’intreccio di temi di natura politica con quelli legati alla sessualità e alla promozione della fertilità, sia alcune continuità simboliche, per cui i cambiamenti nell’uso di elementi cultuali e rituali non esauriscono i loro valori con il declino della ritualità vedica, ma trovano nuovi significati in India, pur in contesti storici diversi.

The new volume in the series Nanaya – Studies and Materials in Anthropology and History of Religions is dedicated to 𝐕𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. The author, 𝐈𝐠𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐨̀, focuses his investigation on the ancient ritual session of 𝐠𝐚𝐯ā𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐚, which accompanied the succession of months in the Vedic religious calendar and ended with the celebration of 𝐦𝐚𝐡ā𝐯𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐚, during the winter solstice. The philological analysis of the texts accompanied by a historical-religious and anthropological perspective allows the author to bring to light a complex pattern of symbolic exchanges linked to the alternation of the seasons and the growth of vegetation, to the myth of generation through the emptying and the relocation, within the perimeter of the civilized world and the law, of what appears disruptive and anomic (such as sexuality). In the book, both the intertwining of themes of a political nature with those related to sexuality and the promotion of fertility emerge, as well as certain symbolic continuities, whereby changes in the use of cultic and ritual elements do not exhaust their values with the decline of Vedic rituality, but find new meanings in India, albeit in different historical contexts.
